What is Free SMS?
The Free SMS feature allows you to send SMS text messages from your computer.
  • Many people prefer to do it this way since typing a message on a computer is often much faster and easier than typing a message on a mobile phone.
  • Some mobile service plans charge up to 25 cents per SMS message. The SmileCity SMS feature allows you to send 5 FREE SMS messages per day - a great way to save, especially if you're on a prepaid mobile plan.
  • The message sent will appear to come from your own mobile phone number. So if the recipient replies, you will get their reply on your mobile phone.
The message that is sent will include "[FREE SMS by SmileCity.co.nz]" at the end. This is required, otherwise SmileCity would not be able to offer you 5 free SMS messages per day.

To be eligible to use the Free SMS feature, you must verify your mobile phone number.

SmileCity reserves the right to vary or revoke the free SMS offer at any time.

If the recipient replies, will I get their reply?
Yes. The message is sent "from" your own mobile phone number. Therefore if the person you sent the message to replies to your message, their reply will be sent to your own mobile phone. Their reply will not come back via SmileCity.

How much does it cost to send an SMS?
First 5 messages you send each day Free
Once you have exceeded 5 messages that day 20 points per SMS

How long can my SMS message be?
Your SMS message can be up to 120 characters long. This is slightly shorter than a normal SMS, since your message will include "[FREE SMS by SmileCity.co.nz]" at the end. This is required, otherwise SmileCity would not be able to offer you 5 free SMS messages per day.

Please note that some special characters, including ^{}\|[]~, count as two characters. You will see the 'characters left' counter below the message box decreasing by 2 for each special character used.

Can I send an SMS message to an international mobile phone number?
No. The Free SMS feature only allows messages to be sent to New Zealand mobile phone numbers.

If the New Zealand mobile phone you want to SMS is currently roaming overseas, the message might get through, however we cannot guarantee that the message will be delivered.
